DOCTRINE, STRATEGY AND NUCLEAR WEAPONS |
|
| |
|
Military doctrines, whether formally written down or
followed in practice, represent beliefs about the kind of war the
military expects to fight and the accepted wisdom about the best method
for fighting it, argues Dr.
Rajesh Rajagopalan. This assumes critical dimensions when
seen in the context of nuclear weapons and how they impinge on warfare. |

THE EPISTEMOLOGY OF WAR GAMING |
|
| |
|
War gaming, even after centuries of practice, is still
more a craft than a discipline, and, hence, prone to many errors as
indeed happens often in wars themselves. In this article, former US Navy
Captain, Professor Robert C.
Rubel initiates a professional dialogue on the underlying
logic structure of gaming by examining the epistemological foundations
of gaming in general and ways in which the knowledge gained from
specific games can be judged sound in order to avoid the possibility of
insidious errors creeping into war games. |
